The Light of the World
Jesus, the sun of righteousness came into this world as the light of the world. He calls all who believe in him and follow him "the light of the world".
Malachi 4:2 But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings.
John 8:12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
Matthew 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Light and darkness are two primary forces in this world. The light rules the day and the night is full of darkness. In literal terms, darkness only reigns in the absence of light. In the presence of light, you will only find darkness behind objects existing as a shadow.
Darkness causes confusion, panic, fear, and gives room for evil works to be done. Those who do evil are constantly afraid of being exposed by the light. Therefore, these two forces are constantly at work in people, in families, in communities, in governments, and in all spheres of life.
The articles in this series seek to stir our minds as we consider what relationship should exist between us and Jesus, the sun of righteousness, and our roles as believers to shine as the lights of the world. We would realize the reason God keeps us in this world and prepare ourselves to perform this important role.
The following articles can be used for daily devotionals or used as bible study manuals by individuals or groups. The content is by no means exhaustive but it should set us up for further meditation and discussions. There will be review questions at the end of the study in form of Kahoot games.
