In literal terms, sin is the breaking of the law. As long as we have societies, we would have laws (rules and regulations) guiding the conduct of all members or citizens. Whenever these laws are broken, there are consequences. If there are no consequences to the breaking of laws, we would have a lawless society. In civil terms, what we call crime, misdemeanor, or felony is just different descriptions of the word - sin.
This world didn't just appear, it was created by God. He has good intentions and loves his creation. To ensure harmony, there are laws of nature and rules of life. When we abide by them, we have peace and joy as well as great relationships. When we break those laws, we experience the consequences of breaking the law.
The problem is not the law. Laws are meant for our good. Just that we tend to want to do those things that the law warns us not to do. Yet, we want to escape the consequences and still have a world of peace and harmony.
I have written 8 articles on "sin". It is not everything there is to know but hopefully, it will help you to understand the bible better in your quest to live a life of good conscience. You may go through them in one sitting or day by day in your personal devotions. Furthermore, you may go through them with friends. As usual, there will be questions (Kahoot games) at the end of the list for your recap of the lessons learned.
